Hi all

Im helping my friend set up his tank and it is in its 3rd week of cycling. His chem numbers are:
Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20, and PH 8.8

What causes his ph to be so high?

Thanks

pH is a a component of equilibrium for the other elements in your tank. What is your alk/Ca/Mg at?

Isn't that kinda part of the cycle process? My tank pH was high too not that high but was around 8.5 when the tank cycle. After several week, it drop to the normal level.

well, if Ammonia and nitrite are zero, then not that I can think of. Nitrite and ammonia can effect pH, but nitrate as far as I remember, is "neutral".

What's your alkalinity sat at? you might have high Alkalinity and it may rise your pH. Do you add two parts in your tank?
