Who's using mangroves

Anyone use mangroves? I always wanted to try because of their great nutrient absorbing ability.

great nutrient absorbing ability? I thought the consensus was that chaeto absolutely blows them out of the water (no pun) for absorbing nutrients.

Eitherway I think you need to spray off the leaves periodically as they get salt "sweating" out of them, also need to be really diligent about making sure leaves that fall off don't stay in your tank.

I was using them some 15 or 20 years ago when I lived in Florida. Can't say the jury ever decided if they were doing any good.

I used to use them on my 1st tank. They grew but I don't think absorbed near the amount of nutrients other macro algae do. I also heard they can absorb quite a bit of magnesium. If you like them for aesthetics, go for it, I doubt they'd hurt anything. The leaves do get salt on them but they still grew for me.
