48÷2(9+3) =

order of operation question?

Smack someone for not being more obvious?

Division and multiplication are "equals" as far as that goes

so its 24 x 12

Not 48 ÷ 24

Order of operations-- Please excuse my dear aunt sally-- that's how I remember it.

48 ÷ 2(12)= 48 ÷ 24= 2

on second thought.Division and multiplication is interchangeable. I change my answer to 288 LOL

2 x 3 ÷ 2 x 1 should answer your questions

If you answer

6 ÷ 2 x 1 = 6 ÷ 2 = 3 then the answer above will be 2

If you answered

6 ÷ 2 x 1 = 3 x 1 = 3

Then the above answer should be 288!

2(9+3) --> 2(12) --> 24
48 ÷ 24 = 2

The answer is two due to order of operations. :)

PEMDAS:

P - Parenthesis (Please)
E - Exponents (Excuse)
M - Multiplication (My)
D - Division (Dear)
A - Add (Aunt)
S - Subtract (Sally)

EDIT: Oh NVM... Since M&D are in the same step I guess you would do the operations in the order they come in. :(

Even though multiplication and division are at the same level (so the left-to-right rule should apply), parentheses outrank division. So,

48 ÷ 2(12)
= 48 ÷ 24 = 2. Matthew is correct.

I think by parenthesis being before M or D it means the stuff inside the parenthesis. The 2(12) would be considered multiplication because it's the same as 2 x 12.

48 / 2(9+3) =
48 / 2(12) =
24(12) =
= 288

Parentheses are first, once completed you just move from left to right in this case as division and multiplication are done in the same priority...

I'm no math whizz but that's my understanding of basic Algerbra...

You would the answer would be simple (288). But Tony is a trickster, I don't know what he has up his sleeves.

It's 288. Follow order of operations. Division and multiplication are equivalent, thus you follow the equation from Left to Right. Thus, 48 / 2 = 24 then times 24 by 12.
