correcting clam issue!

I've had 2 maxima clams for the last 6? weeks. One at 1.5 inches long and the other at 2".

The small one never really looked that great. The bigger one did. Anyway over time the smaller one looked worse and worse. I wasn't sure why. Looked like the classic pictures of irritation or PM. I had researched FW dipping them for the PM, but I also read that PM tends to kill in

Were the clams laying with the hole in their shell below them? Because if they do not lay like that I have heard they can feel uncomfortable.
