Hard water/calcium/limescale build up…

So I recently cleaned up most of the tank of a recently acquired used tank. It has a eurobrace which I think added to deposit above the waterline and on the eurobrace - harder to clean without a dedicated regimen.

I’ve read as much as I can but am now reaching out for real-world solutions people have had. It may be etched in - I’ve read that (continuous evaporation). I’ve given the tank a thorough vinegar bath and tried to see if a razor would have an effect.

I’m about to try PH Down (sulphuric acid) and citric acid - not at the same time. I am also thinking of cerium oxide polishing with a dremel or drill attachment.

You can see before and after pix by checking out my build thread - first steps of the journey.

Hey Marvin, you can try soak the regular kitchen paper towel with vinegar then slap it on anywhere that have residue and let it sit for 2 days. Then it should come off very easily. I tried that and it worked wonders for me.

Spray some citric acid on it and let it soak for a 30-40 minutes...just make sure to keep it wet. After the soak, try using a magic eraser (one with no soap) to get it off. If it's not etched into the glass too bad it should come off. If it is etched, then cerium oxide polish imo will be your only option. You have too much surface area to cover to be using a dremel on it. An actually polisher would be ideal for this job, but if you don't have one laying around I would suggest you get a polishing attachment for a drill instead...that is if you have a drill laying around lol.

I’m gonna do soak over the next 2 days, then give citric acid and ph down a chance, and then the big guns will be here between Saturday and Sunday - glass polishing compounds with cerium oxide - and then take the brushless drill out for a spin with various pads
