little white sponge

It looks like a white blob, and has a white protruding ex-current siphons at its surface. One sprung up in the middle of my zoanthid colony, and was beginning to smother them out. I took a paperclip and poked it a couple times ... is there anyway to get rid of these things? I know they're beneficial, but where this one is located just isn't going to work out.

tweezers. Wear gloves just in case you allergic though.

Do you actually rip them out? Or just jab the hell out of them like I did with the paperclip
