Reef Octopus NW-110 Depth?

Hi all,

Just got my Reef Octopus NW-110 skimmer. The manual says that the recommended water depth is 5.5". Just wondering how much it would impact the skimmer if I raised the water depth an inch or two? It's about 8" until you get to the bottom of the gate valve.

I'm going to cut baffles to modify my skimmer over Thanksgiving and don't have much room in my sump or under my stand. So, I was hoping to be able to put the skimmer in a little deeper water. I can put it on a 4.5" stand which is the highest it will go without running out of space in the stand. Based on my volume calculations, each extra inch of water depth I can get would be ~.8 gallons of extra water. Because the sump is small, any extra water volume would help. I am hoping to get enough volume to build a small section for a fuge, while also having enough volume in the return section.

Sump is an old wet/dry that's 10X24 with a partition in the middle. The skimmer takes up one side. I am planning on splitting the other side in half.

Thanks!
George
