Seeding biome with gulf rock.

Curious to hear what everyone’s experience is with baked gulf rock or seeding media with gulf rock, got a box of it today and wanted to add it to my bucket but honestly this stuff looks gnarly and smells like a dead cat, I don’t doubt it will add some good diversity once cooked for a few month. Thoughts?

That new BRS series that looked into the best ways to start a tank (mostly that microfauna like microcrustaceans helped the most with nuisance photosynthetic pets), I'd vote for curing it in a bin with a heater for awhile to clear out anything dying. I thought it was a pretty great way of looking at starting tanks and pretty much confirms what we've been doing for ages with successful tanks: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/cont...-biome-cycling-12-aquariums-reefapalooza-2022

Probably one of the better YouTube videos in the last few months. That’s what tipped me off

Probably one of the better YouTube videos they’ve posted lately! That’s what tipped me off to ordering a bit to add to my bucket. Curious to hear if any local reefers have gone down the gulf live rock route

smelled like a dead cat... I like it.

Reminds me of my first push into this hobby ages ago where I got live tonga rock, 2 - 46 pound boxes, flown from Tonga to Las Vegas (for some reason) and was apparently stuck on a tarmac for most the day before they transferred to another plane when LV was having traditional triple digit temps, then it finally came here to SFO... during one of those infamous heat waves we have where once a year it goes above 90. Put that in the tank while it was cycling and good god that smell... lets just say it was good that I was single at the time, but I still spent most of my time over the next week in the bedrooms at the back of the house while the front had all the windows open to ventilate.
