got ethical husbandry?

Terrible! Lame engineering or bad install?

I notices something at the AOS today.
Fire sprinklers in front of the acrylic front of the tank were plentiful.
Someone was thinking.
No chance of a fire burning through the tank.
Lots of cobwebs around them though :D

GA makes you hand in all lighters, knifes, etc. People are idiots.

FWIW you missed an option (only listed 2), poor construction. Tanks that big the panels are seemed and layered (if acrylic - though it appears this one is glass).

I read some stories that said acrylic, some that say glass. Also read one article that said it was 15cm thick (about 6 inches) which may not have been thick enough if it's simply a flat pane. Either way, I'm with Gresham on this, my thought was poor construction, and not because it happened in China (although I'll admit I did have some prejudice leanings towards that :D).

I'm actually surprised something like the Steinhart hasn't seen much in the way of vandalism on it's acrylic (that or they're just super good at removing it), quite of few sucky people who decide they want to ruin something nice.

I am also surprised more public aquariums don't frisk you for lighters, knifes, etc. SOme idiot burned a mark into the giant tank at GA, such a shame.

Looking at the video, the wave seems to start at the top.
So it looks a lot like to top part of the glass separated from the top rim.

So a total wild guess would be poor engineering of the top frame structure.
