Texas State Aquarium kills all fish in tank with pest treatment

"The aquarium said it tried the treatment after struggling to eliminate the parasites, which were described as part of the Trematoda class of parasitic flatworms."

Looks like they tried some kind of flatworm treatment. The LA Times has more info on which specific internal flatworm they were dealing with.

They have not disclosed what drug or drugs they used. I would think they would have discussed their issues with the exhibits around the world for advice. I would have called Ross for advice on whether praziquantel or tank transfer method was ideal:)
 
they probably can't disclose the name of the product until they can prove what caused the die-off. It could be a pretty serious libel/slander (IANAL i dont know what it actually would be) issue if they blamed it on the product and ended up not being the cause.

I'm surprised they didn't just shoot the worms.

On a more serious note, it's a wonder they didn't try it out on a small sample. Hope no one made an 'off by an order of magnitude' dosing mistake.

In one of the videos they said they did try it on a smaller tank and had no ill effect.....so who knows????
