Theory: underfeeding chalices prevents sweeper tentacles?

I keep reading about these long sweeper tentacles that chalice corals supposedly send out... none of my chalices do that. I have one big Hollywood stunner and two smaller frags (watermelon/golden) that seem to be colored up and growing OK. When I feed the fish (or fish poop on them) small tiny (say, 2mm) tentacles come out for a little bit. But I don't feed my corals and only have about 0.25" of fish per gallon.

Is it possible that underfeeding reduces tentacle development, since they use tentacles to grab food, and then they don't have the same stinging power? Or is there another factor in chalice aggression?
