thanks, will increase the frequency! My autofeeder has pellets and 2 different type of flakes, but not a lot reaches the water column :D thanks for the info, interestingly 2 of the Chromis got interested in clams on the half shell recently :D

Thank you, yes that’s how I use the 2 clips in my tank! Since Chromis aren’t interested in Nori, Yellows get to eat a little bit before Blue comes and scares them away.. I am hoping this will subside soon!

did you mean to say less, more often? OR more, more often? I heard people saying feed 6 times a day, the SAME amount that you would feed in 2 feeds, which would translate to 'less, more often', hence wanted to confirm with you what your suggestion is

I mix and match - PE Mysis, Brine and Mysis Shrimp, LRS reef frenzy alternative I got from my LFS, Clams on the shell, fish eggs, TDO pallets, flakes.. I always try to use selcon, vitachem or lipogarlic every day unless I am in a hurry.. I have also setup auto-feeder but feel like the shy ones...

    This Storm is Brutal

Scary! I just got the Solar installed (still waiting on PTO, these guys are soooo slowwww), significantly smaller system though (~6.5 khw).. and 1 powerwall.. Tesla claims Powerwall can help backup 2-3 days at least running at full capacity, isnt that true? how many Powerwalls do you have...

Hypo (Day 30): Today marks completion of 1 entire month of being in Hypo (day 1 being when I reached 1.009).. Instructions on HF and R2R says keep it in hypo from 30-35 days AFTER last spot was seen.. To keep it safe I will stay at this salinity level for another 10-15 days from now.. There are...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

@Bigfish can you share phosphates number from RODI, Freshly mixed saltwater (after few hours of mixing) and tank water for comparison? Like I suggested before this is the only way to know the source of the problem.. it may be your RODI water (which can be due to city water or RODI filter), your...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

yep like I said above, that's what I am focussing on right now! just wanted to share my experience using LC during the cycling stage.. once I am out in the clear, will try LC again following instructions from Derek's article.. until then no need to worry about it, since I dont have any corals in...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

Fully agree, funny thing is that I didnt have any fish when we did it in my tank.. this was that 1 month when I was cycling my tank and checking params left and right and learning on the go.. I was ghost feeding for a few days and thought that would have been raising the phosphates, added LaCl3...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

Yeah I was hoping it would magically bring down phosphates in my tank as my LFS guy is a big fan too and always use it in 'safe' doses in all client tanks.. But.... it didnt for me for some reason, I added same dosage 1 more time, with little impact.. May give it a try again, once I am past Hypo...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

a very knowledgeable guy (with Masters in Bio) that works part-time at my LFS gave me Lanthanum Chloride during one of the setup rounds.. He dosed about 25 drops using a dropper when we 1st saw high Phosphates in my tank.. He added that directly into the skimmer.. Phosphates did come down...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

just be extra careful with the dosing, overdosing can cause severe issues specially if you have tangs! I am also facing the same issue as you.. Unfortunately for me, Lanthanum Chloride didnt work either.. I had a bad case of cyano as well just like you.. I added UV, changed the flow direction...

I ordered a 100 micron filter floss, looks like I will need to cleanup every couple of days :D This is what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014G7WTRY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Do you all mind sharing links of what you guys use?

Thanks Michael for the useful information.. thing I didnt understand is that even after I cleaned the socks, it was still overflowing.. Anyhow, I feel I can replace floss every few days so will give it a shot and see how it goes.. if it gets too hectic, will look into plumbing the reefmat

Hypo (Day 21): @Turkeysammich stopped by, and in 30 mins helped me with so much useful information and pointers! Tells me why, experience is measured in gold! My blue tang which hadnt scratched in last 2 weeks or so, started scratching when Will was looking at the tank :D Will spotted 1 white...
