I had a great conversation with a coral reef researcher recently, who works at the Hawaii institute of marine biology studying the effects of environmental changes. He made a point to say that the reefs aren't doomed: many corals and other animals were able to survive in their systems even under extreme heating and acidification - and no group of organisms reacted the same to these stressors. Reefs will change, but they're not doomed. There's always a better outcome that we can work towards

Don't give up yet: the fight isn't over, the reefs aren't gone. Headlines are gonna be headlines, but the message that our reefs don't have a future is wrong. We can still make a real, meaningful difference
