Michael's 120 Gallon Reef

Hey Bar,

My office wasn't full so I got a used 120 Viso tank that is 4' x 2' x 2' with a center rear overflow. I just got it plumbed up yesterday with some local help and am going to fill it tomorrow. I got some huge pukani rocks from a new local reefer who picked up even more for his build, and he gave them to me in exchange for talking to him for 1-2 hours about reefing and what I know/think I know. I don't know for sure what I am putting in it yet, but am debating between traditional mixed reef vs a predator tank. I like the idea of an eel and a lionfish so I might try that, but there are more traditional fish I want too. Decisions... Here are some pictures. I am going to fill the rest with rock from my 300's sump to kickstart the cycle, but love the pukani I have in there. These are basketball sized chunks!

You gonna seed it from your current tank or try and do an independent biome seeding from elsewhere?
I'm getting live rock from my 300 sump to kick the biome. I just finished up the antibiotics in it so it's probably weird, but I still think it's the fastest way to get the new tank running. I swear I said this above ;), lol.

I knew you would understand me.

I am going to Kenny's this weekend, I bet I could get a chunk of rubble from him and add one from my sump and ship you a little biome care package if you're interested.

Tempting, add a couple of your easiest sps frags (monti, Stylo etc) and I'll cover shipping! I still think I should add some of the rock from my 300 sump for speed of cycle reasons, but I like the idea of more bacterial variants in the tanks.

I added a tunze ato, small jebao wavermaker, orbit bar light (temporary until I get my extra ap700 installed), heater + inkbird hooked up and got the pump/valve tuned to be much quieter. I am planning on adding a screen top from Jumpguard, an eheim autofeeder and a 2 little fishes feeding ring, when I get some fish for the tank, but will still let the cycle go for a bit on the new/old pukani. I put a few rocks from my 300 sump in the display here and will let that cycle for a while until I get any cleanup crew. I can add the neptune gro that I fixed and got a 12V power supply for when the fuge becomes necessary.

If budget builds only count what you spend in the immediate month of the build and not including gear from my garage, I am still well under $500 for this tank.
