Hello! Just moved from Toronto to SF

Welcome! How did you find out about BAR? I’m in Pleasant Hill - East Bay. Members here are spread all over the Bay Area and beyond. So you have a setup in progress here, as well as one in Canada?
 
Here's the reef so far! I got a good deal on a very well maintained Reefer 200XL, so I've decided to upgrade from my old max nano into this for more space. I've also always wanted to do an NSA style aquascape, so I tried that too. Took me like a month to get it done (lots of re-doing, and I ended up breaking and rebuilding the entire thing at the end as I got much better at gluing strong joints). Just waiting on an RODI filter, then we'll start filling it!

Yeah, thats right. Learned about BAR through the reef2reef forums. I'm setting up a new tank here, then I'm going to ship the livestock from Canada, and then sell that tank.
 
A few years back a friend was moving back from British Columbia to the Bay Area and shipped me his livestock before he drove down. He was fairly close to the border so popped into Washington and Fedex me his livestock. He had to fill out USFWS Form 3-177 Declaration for Wildlife. The only issue was he forgot to add his live rock on the form which caused a bit of delay but all went well.. He didn’t want to risk his livestock getting held up or delayed in SF Airport . If there were any hiccups at the border he could have just returned back home with his fish..Torontos not to far from New York

Did he need health certificates for his coral and fish?
 
He might have since he took his dog to the Vet to get one but not sure on his fish. I don’t remember seeing anything when I received the livestock. Wouldn’t a marine biologist or lfs business owner with license be 100x better than a Veterinarian to sign off on live fish! Geologists for live rock lol.
When I used to fish in BC for salmon and halibut the regulations at time were I needed a health certificate to bring back my dead frozen catch so I got one once from a fish packing company . The border agents all laughed when I showed it to them. They said all we need is to be able to identify the specific species since certain ones need cites. After that never bothered to get one.
Its Halibut season now in the SF Bay and reports are looking good and will just get better time to start tossing lines!!
