Rapid tissue necrosis in my purple stylophora (i.e. RTN FTL)

Got it. Yes, a dead whale would be a good situation for a necropsy :)

Rapid tissue necrosis in my purple stylophora (i.e. RTN FTL)

Necrosis, not necropsy. Yes, it happened over about a day and a half.

    Removing large toadstool leather

I did this fairly recently with a huge toadstool. It's now doing great. The biggest problem was holding it in one spot while it attached to a new rock, which took a long time. Eventually I followed instructions I found online and glued toothpicks upright to a rock and then impaled the coral on...

Rapid tissue necrosis in my purple stylophora (i.e. RTN FTL)

My really big purple stylo colony started dying back to the skeleton. Don't know what caused it--parameters look great, and I haven't changed anything recently. I managed to make a lot of frags cut well above the RTN (it was a huge colony), and I managed to remove the rest form the tank. Took a...

    DBTC: Bubblegum digitata

Time for condolences, I lost a frag. This post was automatically created by BARcode

    DBTC: Bubblegum digitata

I just set the number of frags to zero. Is there a better way? I don't see a control for deleting it.

I'm sorry that I didn't see this at the time. Regardless, I no longer have this one.

    Free Zoanthidae

Follow up: Threw out the main rock. They had spread to a larger rock, which I removed and is now soaking in bleach. Hopefully I can clean it and reuse it at some point. But for now, I actually like the effect of lowering the rock above it to give those corals more room to grow.

    Free Zoanthidae

Oh wow—I had no idea they were that serious. Thank you all for letting me know. I’ll just trash them then. @Srt4eric I’m very sorry to hear that story. I do own a dog, and that sounds like a terrible nightmare of a situation.

    Keith's DIY equipment cabinet

I also love that! Have you had it papered long? Any problems with salt creep affecting the paper? (I'm clumsier than I should be during maintenance.)

    Free Zoanthidae

Anybody want these guys? I think they are protopalys. I've had this rock forever, but at this point I'd like to remove them from my tank. Basically unkillable, but it does tend to spread aggressively (as you can see here). Green in white light, does not fluoresce. Warning: I've had a skin...

    Keith's DIY equipment cabinet

Thanks everybody! I love that white cabinet, and if the tank and cabinet were not near other furniture, I think that would look good. But as @richiev says, it's not right for that room. If anything, I'd love to get a woodgrain stand for the tank.

    Keith's DIY equipment cabinet

This is really part of my Reefer 250, but I felt this project needs it's own thread. I've gotten tired of always seeing all of my equipment and wires in the living room, so I decided to make a new equipment cabinet. I took a lot of ideas from builds I've seen here. Here's my "before" picture...

Free: purple stylophora, green toadstool, others

Kensington Reefer, just sent you a PM. For anybody else with the same question, I live in Oakland. Will give more details in direct conversation.

Free: purple stylophora, green toadstool, others

I'm pruining my tank, and need to get rid of stuff. I particularly need to prune out a lot of my purple stylophora. Also have green toadstools (various sizes), red mushrooms, and lots of GSP. Prefer to give them away than throw them out.

    Montipora STN?

    Montipora STN?

Unfortunately, I don't have a good way to separate them. They're both encrusting the same rock, and my experience with scraping back zoa colonies has not been good. I might try a long line of epoxy along the boundaray to create a DMZ. It will get overgrown again eventually, but could test the...
