Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

It's alive! Thanks Eric for the chaeto - my first non-bacteria inhabitant.

Thanks Gablami, hope things work out with your system. I'll do a 50% tonight and start making more SW.

Good to know on the clowns/corals, thanks. Mixing saltwater right now for a water change. I can do up to a straight 60% swap with new saltwater or I can do 60% swap, move the RODI over the the mixing tank, do a quick mix and dump that in for real close to what is effectively a 100% water...

Hi Eric, I would absolutely be interested in some. Thanks. Let me know the logistics for picking it up. Best regards, Mike

I can swap like 50% or more if need be. Where do you recommend I get some "safe" chaeto?

When the tank is cycled and I do the big water change, what is the typical % of the system volume swapped out or is there a target NO3 that is aimed for? Thanks!

I am assuming the bacteria needs to be fed. I was planning on letting ammonia drop to 0.25 ppm and then adding a bit of fish food.

Good to know, thanks! I am only using the API test kit for ammonia and nitrite (didn't want to spend a bunch of money on fancy test kits to only use them for the cycle). All the other tests/readings are using Milwaukee, Hanna, or Salifert so I feel much more comfortable with those readings...

My 8020 showed up so I assembled my light stand for the 3 Mitras. Should be nice as I can easily move the entire stand up/down and the 3 short perpendicular tubes that will mount directly to the Mitras can move left and right and front to back. Just loosen a few cap screws and any piece is...

Thanks Vincent! I am pretty adventurous. Gabe - I'll sent you a conversation - I'll take the light. Driving through Fremont today at 2:30 or so. Otherwise could do PA on Sunday.

I did not add Prime or any declorinator. I do have a 6-stage BRS RODI which is supposed to remove all the chlorine. Doing TTM on the fishes so I can probably get pretty serious about getting a pair of clowns in a week or two. Derrick is down for 6 months, where to get a great pair (thinking...

OK, cycling the tank is tougher than I thought. I really want to get something going in QT........... Here is where the tank is at....... I put in 4 ppm of ammonia Sunday and enough Dr. Tim's for 180 gallons (the actual water volume is about 160 from when I filled the tank and sump). It is now...

I see that. Any thoughts as my heaters don't have any self-temp controls?

username = mhorzewski Feel free to give advice. I figure I'll be learning the apex while I cycle the tank, so I am probably doing lots of things wrong. Using the apex for the heaters. I actually do not have redundancy to turn off the heaters (they have no controls themselves, just a stick and...

This is pretty cool, I upped the temp from work via fusion and we are now at 81 F (80-81 range).

Thanks, I'll bump up the temperature (going to try it via fusion from work). Right now without lights over the tank, it takes about 3 hours to drop from 78 to 77 degrees and kick the heater on. I figure that will change when the lights arrive. In 36 hours since adding ammonia and Dr. Tim's, the...

Thanks. I can try the air stone and move that around. Not sure what type of pellets to drop in and not have them get sucked up into the return.

Thanks. Now to play with the WAVs while the tank cycles. Is there a good way to see the flow patterns created by different power head placement and programming or just buy some plastic plants and stick them at different places in the tank and watch them?
