Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

For those of you willing to borrow suction cups for my tank move, I'll be at Neptune's this Saturday for at least the start of the LFS tour (I need to paint the wall behind the tank this Saturday, so I don't know how many stores I can visit). If you are going to be there, could you please bring...

OK, tank moving is: Date: July 23rd Time: 3:00 pm Location: San Jose - Evergreen (10 minutes "east" of 101 and Blossom Hill/Silver Creek Valley Road) I'll edit this, but what is the best way to get people my address? I figure 6 people would be perfect (happy to host more and meet some new...

Hi CAliuDig - Thanks. I haven't started calling friends yet. So more hands wouldn't be a bad thing. For those of you with suction cups, please PM/conversation your contact info so I can come pick them up, thanks again! So I put the "which light would you rather look at hanging over the tank"...

Thanks. I just checked some threads about the Stenner. Seems pretty decent especially for $307 new. Curious how loud they are? I would expect the 170 GPD 25 PSI pump would be the way to go to minimize run time.

Thanks for letting me know on the suction cups - that will be a great help. I can come up with people to move the tank if need be, just thought I would throw it out to the club as that would be more fun to do with interested people and chat about tanks than just some friends who may have no real...

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

So I plumbed the water lines for the ATO, and an inlet line and outlet line for automatic water exchanges. I ran a 1" bulkhead, near where the DT will be located, through the wall to the outside of the house. From there I ran 1" PVC down the side of the house and through another wall into the...

Dri-Dek may be a plan. I would worry about the felt holding water and not sure how 2000 lbs would slide on wet felt.

Agreed, I think I want something that will not hold water, yet allows air under the stand to enable blow drying under the stand of any water spills. The stand is flat-bottom. Maybe something like a ton of these guys, placing one 1" square every 12" or so...

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

Flagg37, It is an engineered hardwood tongue and groove floor over a concrete slab - it is floating and is not nailed or glued down. I just put a 4' long level on the floor where the tank will be and the floor itself it is awfully level - which is a good sign. If I put the stand on the floor...

Thanks for all the input so far. I just returned from scuzy's (thanks!) to look at the Mitras. Very nice lights. He also had an AP700 running next to it, so that was good to see side by side as opposed to running between shops (which I have already done). Good coverage on the Mitras and still...

OK, so I filled the tank with water last night and it has been running since as I am doing a leak test on all the plumbing. Fingers crossed, so far only one tiny leak on an o-ring on the front half of one of the manifold Cepex valves - I tightened it up as much as I could and will continue to...

I put in lots of unions. I am going to run it for a few days in the garage, then pull off parts of the plumbing so I can move the stand/sump as one piece and then the tank, then put those pieces of plumbing back on in the house. What are the Philips lights? Best regards, Mike

Hi All, Thanks for the input. Scuzy, I would welcome the opportunity to come by for a look at your lights. I'll send you my email in a conversation. Just completed putting the plumbing together, going to wait 24 hours and then water test it all. Fingers crossed, I sure hope there are no leaks...

Thanks Mike, Yes, to me the whole lighting selection thing is much more of a challenge as opposed to most everything else (which is reasonably straight forward based on rating/performance). With lights, it is coral growth, disco ball, shimmer, shadowing, heat generation, etc. and a number of...

Thanks Guys, I wasn't aware of the GHL Mitras lights - they look nice on paper. I would like to look at those if someone has them mounted and running. I have seen the Radions and those are nice. This is what I am thinking, I would likely need 3 LED lights to cover the length of the tank...

Hi All, Just ordered my MarcoRocks, emaco, Dr. Tim’s one and only, and Carib Sea Sand per recommendations. Thanks all. Seeing this is all “Dead” and I am starting up a new tank, after washing everything, can I put it all in the tank together at the same time, put in saltwater and Dr. Tim’s...

Funny, I am enjoying this as much for the research, the learning, the parts selection and building, etc as I am for the "finished" product. So no real hurry to get some fish in the tank, I am enjoying the process and trying to do it to where I will look at it and be proud of it. If it takes...

There are probably 7 hours work in those 3 lines.................I don't think the return with manifold is going to take any less either. Hopefully only doing it one time (besides the time, plumbing is expensive!).

Yes, tubing looks nice these days. Had to color match with the sump......because the colored tubing does not cost extra. I went with black for the returns, seeing the sump is red/black. I have the BRS 6-stage which is supposed to deal with chlorine/chloramines (per their literature/specs)...
