Frankenstein Power Strip - NOT for the faint of heart.

Oh, for a power strip with just switched a DJ panel is a far better deal. At best you could "possibly" make one of these for ~$40 ($4/switchx8 and $8 for an 8 plug strip). But, when life gives you limes...make Mojitos.

Frankenstein Power Strip - NOT for the faint of heart.

OK, so I just did a project with a DJ power panel that inspired me slightly. And, as most of you probably have figured out I love DIY projects so I decided to make my own “custom” power strip for my FW top-off and SW mix/change area. Here’s a quick synopsis and pictures: The power strip does...

I need help finding the basic tools for fragging? Any help would be great.

Look up zoatoxin or palytoxin and you'll find a lot of info on it. It can make you sick but not like a black widow in any sense. Just, don't get it in your eyes, swallow it or get it in any open wounds. If you do you may get ill or, like me, get an irritated eye. But, don't worry too much...

I need help finding the basic tools for fragging? Any help would be great.

Yeah, that's a word that raises a few eyebrows here and there. In certain circles I'll edit my speech (sucks that I have to do it but it is the times we live in). I still think back to Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam when I need a dose of "reality": The Mississippi River broke through...

I need help finding the basic tools for fragging? Any help would be great.

OK, let's go down you list: Softies Shrooms and polyps require you to dislodge a small amount of rock with the coral. This helps with gluing to a new piece of rubble. (Yes, rubble NOT disks. I'll explain later.) You will also most likely need to cut the binds between polyps to separate out a...

Help! trying to save my corals

If you can "fluidize" the carbon, that would help. But, you don't want the water going through it too quickly. If you have a phosban reactor sitting around you can put some in there. Basically you want water to hit as much surface area of the carbon as possible but not go through it so...

Anyone have 1/2 Ball Socket Assembly Locline pliers?

Putting them together is no problem. But, getting them apart sometimes takes a little leverage. If two pieces are being stubborn I stick something soft(ish) like a rubberized pliers handle into one or both pieces. This usually gives me enough to pop them apart.

Help! trying to save my corals

Are we talking bleaching or tissue necrosis? Sounds like you are describing RTN. If so, where is the "death" starting from: base or tip of the corals? Personally I don't think a high salinity is your culprit since you'd probably see a more slow, steady problem as opposed to a "flip of the...

    Wrasse

I'm going to risk the copperband. I've heard mixed reviews on it. I figure I can introduce some corals to the QT and see what happens. If it's a no go, then back to the store for 50% credit.

    Dipping for AEFW?

Hey All, I know this has been covered before and I'm sure a little "light" searching on my part could find this answer but it's V-Day and I already went to the swap. So, the fact that I'm even typing this is a miracle. Anyway, one of the Chalice corals from the swap had a warning about...

    Home Electrical Calculation Worksheet

Well, I had to estimate usage quite a bit but in the end I was off by ~10%. Without a kill-a-watt I was pleased with the results. 10% is significant but considering I don't know exactly how much my dryer or refrigerator (for example) use, I found it helpful. I'll let you know in three days if...

    Home Electrical Calculation Worksheet

Hey All, I recently had a VERY high electricity bill and I was absolutely confused of the cause. So, I made a simple XLS file that broke down our home electrical and allowed me to play with the numbers. I've heard from others that we all struggle with this, so I thought I'd share the sheet...

Polyp Poisoning.... Stupidest thing I think I've ever done.

Never knew boiling polyps could be so bad. You all heard about my experience of getting the "juice" in my eye. Yep, I believe in Palytoxin and it appears there is more than one way to be affected by it. Glad everyone is OK and thank you for sharing the story.

    DIY LED light mod

Ended up the guy wanted to keep the goby. Que Sera. I have a bunch of other fish coming from other generous members over the next two weeks. To get any lumens into your tank for growth you'll need much more than 1W LEDS. In my old tank with SPS I had 4x39W T5s and one 75W VHO. Now, you...

    DIY LED light mod

What kind of lighting are you hoping for Sherri? Growth or actinic supplementation? What do you have in there now? I had a 46 bowfront and had a great light setup (I think). BTW, I think putting any LEDs that will light up something as big as a 46G bowfront will be EXPENSIVE. I looked into...
