    DIY MH/T5 fixture

Is "both" an acceptable answer? Wood is easy to work with but is susceptible to water damage. Acrylic has some limitations as a working material but resists water 100%. I built a light stand with acrylic "legs" and a plywood top. Now, if you are planning a pendant then I say wood all the way.

    Pom-Pom Crabs! OMG! :)

Nice find! I've always loved the look of pom pom crabs but have never found one with two anemones. From what I know they do not "grow" anemones but there is some speculation that they can encourage their symbiotic anemones to split. There was an article on it somewhere; I'll try to find it...

I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

Thanks All, great questions and insight again. P- Yes, I am also worried about the ammonia spike so I will be taking many precautions. First, I will run a canister filter with LR from the sump for at least the first two weeks. Also, I threw some filter socks on my drains earlier this week that...

I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

You are not missing anything Vince. You are absolutely correct. However, I have a different way of looking at it.... I currently only have one fish showing signs of ich and it is minor (3-4 specks on a side). So it's not a full blown catastrophic infestation or anything like that. I know...

I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

Thanks Jelly, Levi and Josh for your experiences and insight. Here are my thoughts: 1. Garlic has been shown to improve the immune system of fish but doesn't "kill" the ich in the tank. So while my fish may get healthy now it is no guarantee for the future. 2. I plan on running the 55G BB...

I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

Hey Bryan - Unless I am wrong, Copper (or cupramine) will kill ich when it is not attached to a fish along with any other invert. Josh - my QT tank will be a 55G tank 50%-70% filled so it can hold my 11 fish. It has a built in overflow I have to avoid and I'll be using my canister filter...

Tank changes - Problems with this plan?

Hey Herman, Here are my two thoughts (and mind you I moved my tank three times in the last six months with only one causing any issues): 1. Take the fish out for a few days with some live rock for bio. It's SOOOO much easier to work without fish. 2. Put only "dead" sand and rock back in the...

I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

Some of you are reading this because of the title assuming that I'm either dumb or sarcastic. Well, neither is true. My latest purchase should have been QT'd, but he looked very healthy and I have no patience. Go ahead, give me the I told you so, it will fall of deaf ears. ;) But, then why...

Hey Serg, Before it's all gone I need a piece of this as well. This colony didn't perish in the move to Danville, but under my parent's watch in Moraga. Of all of my corals I lost this is the one that hurt the most. Partially because it was "unique" and I had yet to...

    What is in your sump?

OK, the reason I asked is because fuge size is proportional (in some ways) to tank size. You could get away with a 3 Gal or even less fuge and have decent nitrate absorption for what should be in that tank. I'm looking at a small Tupperware container I have here that holds three gallons and...

    What is in your sump?

How big is your tank? and how tall is the stand? In my sump I have a skimmer, three heaters and a bunch of rock to break up bubbles (I don't have baffles). My pump is external and my fuge is on the other side of the room. You should not need to run Carbon or any chemical filter regularly...
