    Zero nitrates with phosphates

I have occasionally taken a sample in to Neptune, to check a result. They are happy to do so on non-weekend days.

    Check out this Bounce!

Thanks for the tip. I was not aware.

    Check out this Bounce!

I saw it the last time I was in. Is all the good stuff already purchased when I visit, or is it going directly into the front room tanks?

    Clowns Not Eating

Ray, The clowns have had their world turned upside down. A mating pair (especially the female) are very territorial, and they have had the tank to themselves. The tanks were clear invaders and needed to be dealt with. Then they were moved from their home to a new and sterile environment. I...

    Zero nitrates with phosphates

Eugene, first take a deep breath and remember that nothing good happens quickly in a reef aquarium. That said, you may not being having spectacular growth, but it does not sound as though you are losing corals either. Not bad on a new tank. If you read threads, you will hear of very experienced...

    My 210 restart.

Serious envy. When are you going to frag?

    Free Chaeto!

Vincent, thanks for the offer, but I am still dosing my tank, and it would kill the chaeto. I'll take you up later on the offer.

What are Safe Decorative Bases for Encrusting Corals?

JesterSix has been making a number of items, including Star Wars these. Perhaps a Darth Vader head?

    Raising phyto, pods, and rotifers

After my 190 is rid of algae and is stable and growing, my next project is to spin up a frag/propagation tank. My objective is not to sell, but to have frags to swap at meets and also give to new tank owners and folks who experience a crash. While many corals experience growth with just good...

    Update on the algae project

Michael, Here is what I have been doing... I don't know that I would recommend it to others yet. The jury is still out, and there are many confounding factors (not a very good nor scientific experiment). I have been using Fauna Marin Algae X product. This requires very careful dosing. There is...

    bondolo's defunct tanks

Hmmmm... Probably explains it. I do a 20% (45 gal) change every other week.

    bondolo's defunct tanks

Then perhaps my experience is weird. My tank is not consuming Mg. At all. I test once per week, and I am consistently around 1260 using a Red Sea test kit. Have not needed to add Mg during the past year. Took a sample to Neptune ensure that neither my test kit nor my method were off. Any clues?

    Update on the algae project

I have seen no impact on coraline aglae. I am seeing more of it, it attribute that to actually seeing rock waht was previuosly obscured by unwanted algae.

    Update on the algae project

Since I went to dripping the H2O2 all the corals have been OK. Nobody seems entirely happy, no no signs of decline. No SPS in the tank.

    Update on the algae project

Interestingly, with the significant reduction of algae in the tank, neither nitrites, nitrates nor phosphates has increased. I don't know what was feeding the algae. The objective is to eradicate the hair algae from the system. I think film algae is a part of the reef experience.

    Dosing hydrogen peroxide

In an effort to eliminate hair algae from my system, I did some research on the dosing of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). There are quite a number of threads across several boards, reporting varying results. Dosing levels are rather standard. And so, I carefully measured out the recommended dose for...
