Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

@Bigfish can you share phosphates number from RODI, Freshly mixed saltwater (after few hours of mixing) and tank water for comparison? Like I suggested before this is the only way to know the source of the problem.. it may be your RODI water (which can be due to city water or RODI filter), your...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

Fully agree, funny thing is that I didnt have any fish when we did it in my tank.. this was that 1 month when I was cycling my tank and checking params left and right and learning on the go.. I was ghost feeding for a few days and thought that would have been raising the phosphates, added LaCl3...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

Yeah I was hoping it would magically bring down phosphates in my tank as my LFS guy is a big fan too and always use it in 'safe' doses in all client tanks.. But.... it didnt for me for some reason, I added same dosage 1 more time, with little impact.. May give it a try again, once I am past Hypo...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

a very knowledgeable guy (with Masters in Bio) that works part-time at my LFS gave me Lanthanum Chloride during one of the setup rounds.. He dosed about 25 drops using a dropper when we 1st saw high Phosphates in my tank.. He added that directly into the skimmer.. Phosphates did come down...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

just be extra careful with the dosing, overdosing can cause severe issues specially if you have tangs! I am also facing the same issue as you.. Unfortunately for me, Lanthanum Chloride didnt work either.. I had a bad case of cyano as well just like you.. I added UV, changed the flow direction...

Thanks Michael for the useful information.. thing I didnt understand is that even after I cleaned the socks, it was still overflowing.. Anyhow, I feel I can replace floss every few days so will give it a shot and see how it goes.. if it gets too hectic, will look into plumbing the reefmat

Hypo (Day 19): Things look good, nothing major to report except the cyano problem appears to be resolved now.. I tried a few things - Rowaphos, increased and redirected flow in the tank and of course added UV.. maybe everything working together helped fix the cyano problem for me.. my...

    Free 6-7". 67. Foxface - gone

issue? what issue  just kidding After trying hypo, I feel hypo is like the best QT for any new fish and I would certainly do this going forward too, since this is healthy and disease free fish + my DT at hypo serving as a QT for him, I dont see an issue adding him.. but I understand your...

    BRS codes

I am pretty sure that’s not how it works :) It’s a crowd sourced extension, if there is a code that works for you, you can choose to share it through the extension with everyone in the community, similar to this post :) it won’t steal referrals from websites unless someone allowed it to re-use...

    Hyposalinity

Yep, that was a stupid move on my part, with just target salinity in my head.. didnt think through what all could go wrong, and didnt think about a power failure at all until now when you mentioned that.. OMG! I use Reef Octopus 200 skimmer and was plumbed at 8 inch water depth initially during...
