Anyone know what this is? Sponge? Macro?

I have a customer with this growing like crazy in his tank. Looks like a sponge to me but I've never seen it before. Anyone have an idea? I'll try and get some pictures under a microscope to post up.

There's dwarf codium varieties that are smaller

Ehh, That looks pretty similar. I guess I'm just use to the larger variety.
