Best place to buy Black Sand?

Where's the best place online to buy black hawaiian sand? Or any black volcanic sand, but I'll need 200lbs so don't want to pay for live sand.

What do you guys think?
SeaChem Gray Coast or Tahitian moon Black sand (Magnetic?)

Better not employee any wrasse or critter that requires sand if you're going with either of those.

Scroll down a bit - they sell dry black sand in a few diff grain sizes. It's magnetic as well, but hasn't seemed to be a major prob so far: http://www.reefsand.com/

looks nicer to me, plus it'll keep light reflection to a minimum. And the tank is going in my living room, so I want to keep the light in the tank and not have it bounce around outside the tank.

Stick with LEDs then. They are directed straight down. On my tank there is little spillage, in fact there is virtually no coraline growth on the glass because of the light focus which is a very cool bonus.

I hope you've seen a black sand tank before you purchase. I'm not saying your preference is wrong, but a lot of people think it looks cool via mental imaging rather than tangible visual proof.

Well, don't mind the cyano, but I've come to like the darker sand fwiw: http://www.vimeo.com/5143403

Very cool. Is that a toby in the tank? Didn't know that you could put them in a reef.

Nice video. I agree with Greg, didn't think you could put Toby's in tanks. However, I read in Coral magazine that as long as they are well fed, they are less likely to nip at corals and such.

Um, I've got a mimic filefish and a valentini puffer. They're doable in a reef tank with a few caveats.

Plate corals are a NO-GO zone with these guys. Acans/favias will be bothered occasionally. New acropora frags will be "tasted" regardless of how well they're fed. Once I got rid of the plate corals - they're model citizens. Way better than freakin dwarf angelssssss!!!! ARRRRR!!! :p

Back to the black sand - I talked to other people who'd set up their reefs with various types before setting up my tank. The main thing they were saying is that any of the JET-black sands wind up looking kinda strange / dirty if they're not kept pristinely clean and most of them regretted using it... so just something to keep in mind.

Yeah I got a frag from Jess's tank a while ago and saw it in person and really liked the tank. It was one of the nicest tanks I've seen. Thats one of the main reasons I would like to go with a darker sand. I never would have thought about it otherwise. The sand I'm looking at is not pure black, but a mix or white & black, with 90% of it being black to gray.

I know I may have more cleaning involved, but I don't mind if I just have one show tank. Right now still going through the remodel job and it'll be a while till the tank gets framed in. And today I had to deal with one of Mitch's mood swings at Bow Valley, that guy is a freak, and he's really getting under my skin, I just hope his tank is work all the crap I've having to go through with him on a personality level.
