Bleached OG Bounce experiment. Chemiclean vs Cipro vs Oxolinic Acid

Came home from the long Memorial day weekend to 3 bleached OG bounces. Rest of the shrooms in the tank are okay for now. Decided to try an experiment to see which works better. Luckily I picked up this dosing container from CFM which works perfectly for this experiment. I’ve been successful using Chemiclean (Erythromycin) before. Chemiclean vs Cipro vs Oxolinic Acid, let’s see how this goes….Has anyone been successful in saving bleached OGs? What was your process?

Disclaimer: I don't have a science degree or anything lol, just using my general knowledge from what I've read on social media, forums and YouTube.

Process:
1. Each section was filled with 2000ml of fresh mixed saltwater. Instant Ocean Purple lid salt was used.
2. I used 3 scoops of Chemiclean and 3 scoops Oxolinic Acid for their assigned compartments.
3. For Cipro I diluted a 500mg pill into 2000ml of the fresh mixed saltwater and divided it into 7 separate water bottles. I plan to dose for 7 consecutive days. Not sure if I'll do a water change or not.
4. I added a air stone to each compartment for flow so the antibiotics doesn't settle on the bottom.
5. I plan to add a LED light and keep it around 50-70PAR
6. Water temp will be kept at 78 degrees.

Don't forget to mark the water line and top off with RODI!

I don't wish there was a fourth that bleached but having a fourth to do nothing to would have been interesting to see.

What was the par they were in when they bleached?
Do nothing and it will guarantee melt away. I've had it happen before.

I let a buddy borrow my PAR meter so won't be able to check it again til later this week. Bad timing to lend it out lol.

My dedicated shroom tank is a IM 40L AIO with a AP9X so I know the PAR was nothing crazy high. Current OGs in that tank are looking good still.

Excuse the dirty glass. What’s interesting is that the 3 bleached OGs are from the same strain. These OGs below are from a different strain. Not sure if it’s coincidental or not.

That is interesting. Are they relatively new to you?

I always figured if things bleach, try lowering the light to see if they color back up. I have absolutely zero experience with bounce mushrooms.

Excited to see how it goes and thanks for sharing!

I've had them since 01/31/2025 so only about 4 months. Came from a fellow BAR member.

Will be interesting to see the results! The scientist in me wished you had a negative control.

Make sure you keep all solutions out of the light and in the fridge if you can.

Erythromycin and Cipro are broad spectrum. Oxolinic acid mostly gram negative.

Day 2 of treatment.
Added another scoop of Chemiclean.
Added another 285ml of Cipro solution.
Added another scoop of Oxolinic Acid.
Temp at 74 / 78 / 76 degrees between the chambers.
Difference in PAR is due to the way the light is mounted on the side of the container. It gives uneven distribution of light.

Observations: Shrooms still look the same.

Bleaching is when the zooxanthellae bail out because of whatever stressor, right? So assuming it was a bacterial infection that caused them to bail and you are treating that, how are you hoping to get the zoox to come back isolated like this? Or put another way, how will you know if your treatment is working since they won’t just color up again without more zoox?

My plan is once the 7 days of treatment is complete, I will move them to my other tank. Some people in the FB groups have suggested to use Brightwell Restor or some other type of amino acids and Reef Roids to help. I might try some phyto as well. Not sure yet.
