Cheato Question

How is cheato supposed to grow? The two clumps I have, one in the sump and one in a hang on fuge, have their tops dry out and turn yellow and almost form a crust. There is also a bit of black/brown around the edges like it’s slowly decomposing. Below the water line it’s green and healthy. I’ve removed this top portion in the past and just happens all over again. Is this normal? Do you need to keep it submerged or can I just leave it?

Hmmm...Submerged is better. Should be a dark green color. Brown/yellow is dying. I have some above the waterline but it's in an enclosed tank so the air stays super humid and still grows green

Under the top it's nice and green. Yes it does grow back, quite quickly, after harvest. I'll try to submerge it without restricting flow.

Thanks

Also macro algae can reproduce in a tank and appear in parts of a tank, like in mine even after my macro algae was gone it kept appearing growing on my powerhead.

Next time someone has a nice ball of chaeto to move out of your tank, I'd appreciate some. I've had a place for it in my sump and the mangroves are going great guns but I've never been able to keep chaeto alive for very long. It just dwindles away. I've even added a circulation pump in sump to tumble it. Now that I've increased my bio load with a bunch of wrasses, I'll bet the chaeto will live.........."It's ALIVE"
Please send me a PM and I'll plan a p/u.
Thanks!
