Cleaning Purigen

So, it looked like it was time for me to clean out my bag of Purigen. I added the bleach, soaked for 24 hours, and now I'm at the dechlorination step. It recommends using ChlorGuard Prime or equivalent dechlorinator.

Does anyone know of a widely available, equivalent dechlorinator that I could find at any basic LFS or pet store (i.e., Petsmart, Pet Club or Petco)?

I have a dechlorinator for my freshwater tank, which also "enhances natural, protective slime coating of fish", as the bottle says. However, the instructions state, "some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen....". Should I just hold off using this product; I'm not exactly sure if this is the slime coat the Purigen instructions is talking about. The product is called AquaSafe from TetraAqua, and its principal ingredients are sodium hydroxymethane, chelating compounds, polyvinyl pyrollidones, seaweed biopolymers, and organic hydrocolloids.

API also manufactures a product called Stress Coat that seems synonymous with the tetra product you're referring to; I am sure there are a handful of products that promote the whole slime coat thing on fish.
I would just stick with using Prime :) Relatively low in cost as well. Back when I was still using filter socks, I soaked my filter socks in bleach to clean them, then soaked them in water and Prime to neutralize any remaining bleach, and it does a wonderful job.. I am not sure if places like Petco, and Petsmart and all carry it. But just about any LFS sponsor should carry it, really.

I've used Amquel with success, Prime seems to be the most potent stuff out there though for breaking down large quantities of bleach IME. I use it exclusively when bleaching ornaments.

I would stick with Prime as well. There is also a step regarding using some sort of acid buffer as well right?

Never used the acid buffer myself, just bleach, rinse, dechlor. The key it to never let it dry out, ever, the beads turn into little raisins.
