CPR Bak Pak question

Hey all,

I have a very noobish question for you guys: Will a skimmer produce foam if used in tapwater? I'm currently testing out a used CPR Bak Pak and it's sitting in a bucket of cold tapwater. My guess is no, that tapwater does not contain protein and therefore you cannot produce that "protein" foam. Am I right on this one?

Thanks all!

Mike

Skimmer doesn't work in Fresh Water... Any skimmer

You seem to know more then the big guys......Tell that to RK2 then since they make commercial model with a FW kit. It does work you just need to design it different. Many high end Koi guys employee them as well.

I haven't seen anyone use skimmer on a fresh water tank. I don't see any that work in FW. Got a link to what you are talking about??

Well, that makes sense then. I just put the CPR in the sump and it's churning up a massive foam. Pictures will be on my tank update in a few.

Thanks for the correction guys....

BTW, when I say any skimmers, I really meant any skimmer designed for salt water. I think I will use my AquaC skimmer on my Turtle tank since I don't have a filter for it and the turtle poop alot :D ..

My Euro Reef is in FW right now, and it is making foam as well :)

Really? That surprises me. Do you have any mods on the skimmer that would make the bubbles extra fine? It should be near impossible unless there is some sort of pollutant in your tank. I mean, you never see foam in a clean mountain stream or lake. But, in certain places of the polluted delta you will see foam. I assume this is due to pesticide and other farm residue.

They're not fine bubbles, but I do notice that at the surface of the water inside the body there is foam :)
There is a mesh mod that was done to it.

Hey guys,

I know you guys see this all the time probably, but this is my first skimmer and here's the gunk that it pulled out after 20 hours. How does it look to you guys, should the gunk be darker and should the water concentration be lower?

BTW, I currently feed my tank 2 drops of Reef Nutrition's Arctic Pods nightly. No water changes for the last two weeks. In terms of fish, I have a small percula, royal gramma and small longnose hawkfish. As for corals, the only major inhabitant is the pulsating Xenia. Various inverts abound.

Thanks guys!
