CPR Overflow Boxes

Anyone have any experience with these? Good? Bad? Catastrophic?

I've always been totally opposed to both drilling my tank or using siphon overflows but I want to hear some opinions on how reliable they are.

The idea I may run with is to install a float valve that shuts off power to the return if the water level in the main tank goes over a certain point... i.e. if the siphon breaks somehow, I don't flood..

CPR is a good overflow box. I've used one on an account that I had a few years ago. Make sure that you use a maxi-jet to pull the accumulated air out of the siphon area. I would use this product again.

I had one running for 5 years with no problems.
You can run a line to a check valve on top of the siphon. Then use a small power head to create a vacuum on that to evacuate any air in the siphon.

I've heard that the siphon valve can get clogged with material; is it easy to fix, and will a maxijet venturi work to re-start the siphon if needed or do I need an aqua lifter type pump?

Aqualifters are a MUCH better solution then MJ using a their "venturi". CPR even ships some with the Aqualifter now ;)
