I don't know, I've never removed a molt in any of my three tanks and it was never an issue. Half the time something eats it, a coral, a nem, nassarius snail every so often.
The first time he molted my kids ran upstairs screaming “the fire shrimp died!!!” I walked down and found him behind the rock and had to explain to them molting. Lol.My fire shrimp is timely as the moon! Every 15 days, without fail. I notice he skips dinner on the 14th day and molts the next morning.
About 15 months ago, it was the first time the shrimp molted in my very new 8g tank. After that he has been on schedule 95% of the times! Here a picture that takes me down the memory lane when I first got into this hobby!
