got ethical husbandry?

First spawning !!!

We got back home today and found our clowns have finally spawned; the ting is that one is a true perc. and the other one is not; anyway, we are very happy to see it finally happened; now I have to find a nice maroon to pair it with one I picked up from a reefer in San Rafael who moved to the East Coast (Ganjero) I know they could be little territorial with other maroons, reason why I'm waiting to see a small-er ~1" at the LFS in San Francisco and pair it with an in-tank fuge to prevent injuries.

congrats Mario. its pretty cool to witness the entire process. Mines spawns regularly. Just like your, one is true perc and the other is not.

Heres a shot of mines moments after they spawned. http://qik.com/video/1447977?page=2

Nice Ed !

Do they host on duncans?
I originally had a false perc pair but adopted a couple of trues and the male was harassed by a six line wrasse and killed it so the female was by herself. The bigger false perc (female) I would say divorced the male and changed sex (one of those things that happen, hey, is San Francisco) :)
I had the false percs in a BC29 for a while with no success, lots of dancing and tingling, hosted on frogspawn. When I introduced a RBTA they immediately went to it and was hoping for them to spawn but never happened. Maybe one wanted to have kids, the other explore the world and that brought them to a split... or was the new girl that tempted one of them?

I'm going to keep an aye open for the babies; I doubt will successfully breed them due to my lack of experience and knowledge plus the ever hungry mouths in the tank, but I will try and that means getting some baby brine or rotifiers.

Mario, yeah they are hosting on an Aussie Duncans. They used to host on a frogspawn, but they moved onto the duncan. Thats funny cause my larger female used to be the little male when she was paired up with another clown two years ago. The female died, so i bought another clown. Then he turn into a female and now she started to lay eggs.

I tried to time the hatch, but i havent had any luck catching the babies. For most part they all become fish food. I recently place a removable frag disk in the same place they lay eggs. Hopefully they will use it, then i could just take the disk off and place it in a seperate tank for hatching.

good luck with you new babies. If you want to read more about hatching and breeding the babies. Get this book by Joyce D Wilkerson, titled Clownfishes. It tell you pretty much everything you need to know about clown fishes.
