Looking for help identifying this thing. I found it at the base of my zenia.

There are a pair a clowns, a lawnmower blenny, and a pygmy hawk fish. I also have snails, hermits, and crabs.

Any ideas? Sorry about the potato photos.

It could go either way. Lots are harmless and grow slowly the signs of a very healthy tank in fact that you are able to grow them. Other types can grow rapidly and grow over other corals and in directly cause them to die.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Keep a casual eye on it. If you notice it grows faster than your xenia lmao than be very concerned. Personally I think it’s different and kinda cool.

Just adding that I think I found a good 3-6 more in the same spot of the tank. Under that little shelf looks like 3-4 under there.
That top one almost appears like it has a mouth.
Thoughts? Still a sponge? Still ok to leave as a science experiment?

I am aware of the concerns with the palythoa and am just treating them like they are undesirable and potentially unsafe. It is a big reason why I am spinning up a different tank as I plan to quarantine and try to kill it off. But as of now I don't have any pressing issues and am enjoying the tank.

Ok just be incredibly careful. This just happened today with another reefer on the Reef Beef discord:

I would Put the rock in water / bleach solution problem solved. Especially if it's a stand alone rock. @SpaceCased I would even give you a replacement rock of your choice if you happen to come to the southbay or a bar meeting anytime soon. I could even frag a few zoas that are alot nicer than those palys if your intrested.
