help with water entering sump

Ok, so the title is a little misleading, but it's the info that I want. Info below doesn't necessarily reflect my setup, but it'll get the information that I want.

Right now I have a bulkhead on the back of my tank and then an 90* elbow to bring the water down. After a very short drop I have a second 90* elbow about 1" below the water level in my sump. The sound of the water falling, as well as the resulting bubbles are very troublesome. How would you go about silencing the noise, and/or removing the resulting bubbles? Both elbows are required to be in the setup, but can be replaced by T's if need be.

Thanks guys, I'll explain more about the setup after it's all done.

I've not gone through the thread phong just posted but the first two things that come to mind are doing a reverse dursa and or using a filtersock.

I use a T instead of the final elbow, and submerge the T so that the "intersection" is half in the water. This allows some of the air to escape instead of being forced under the water as bubbles. You might need to extend the "air" portion with some PVC so that you don't get a mini skimmer effect with bubbles flowing out of the top. It can help if you then add ANOTHER elbow (or T) at the top of the air section, since a lot of noise comes out of it.

Play around with T's and trying to let the air escape before hitting the water.

I think the best would be a "water slide" where the water can hit the surface at a low angle , rather than hitting it near perpendicular, but that would require some clever plumbing.

A gently curved hose versus a sharp 90 turn will help with air bubbing as wel, but takes up a lot of space.

post a pic of what your drain looks like.
