I love it when a fish does its job.

I was watching my tank yesterday while doing some maintenance. My lawnmower blenny has a bulging belly. While I was watching I saw him go after some algae on the glass, the remnants of turf algae on the rocks, and some random stuff on my large turbo snails. This guy has been one of the best additions to my clean up crew. Day 1 he went to town on the hair algae I had. That was over a year ago and haven't seen any more for a while now. Best part is that he will eat any other foods I feed including nori so no worries he will ever go hungry. I read a lot of stories about fish purchased for a particular job that they then go on to fail (insert any fish that is supposed to eat aptasia or some type of algae here). Just glad this guy is livin gup to his name.
Feel free to post similar stories here about fish you hired for a job and they became stellar employees! I might have to recommend my guy for a promotion or at least a raise in his salary.

The box housing the return and drain pipes in my tank are absolutely teeming with aptasia, but I almost never see one in my sump or display tank. I have an aptasia eating filefish in the display tank, but it of course could not eat aptasia in the sump. So I think either the 2 peppermint shrimp or the reef lobster in the sump are eating it.

Will a lawnmower blenny eat brown hair algae?

I need something to clear that from my display tank.

Still waiting for my lemon peel angel to pig out on purple mushrooms…..

So I am color blind. Trying to figure green vs brown hair algae is a challenge for me. With that being said I have seen him go after anything in my tank.

Here he is. Year ago a couple of day after he went in. Had. Bad hair algae outbreak. Recently I had some shoe either hair algae or turf algae. He mowed that down too.

Gonna need an orange filter or whites on to tell, it's all blue

In my big display tank I’ve had an aptasia outbreak. With a snowflake eel in the tank pepermint shrimp were a no go. Tried some of the aptasia eating nudis but I think they all got eaten. Finally opted for a filefish and boy has he gone to town. Robert named him Rocky as in Rocky Balboa ;)

Filefish are awesome. I had one for 18 hrs. Ate the one last aiptasia but then started after the zoas so I had to rehome it.

Of course aiptasia came back. Just one that taunted me. Got a Molly miller blenny from biota. It was tiny when I got it & thought it would get sucked into the overflow or the circulation pump but has not. About 8 months after I got it -the aiptasia finally gone
