My new Koralia 3

Hi all,

OT just got the new Koralias in this week. I took home a 3 after they talked me down from a 4. That was a good call because those things really push a lot of water! As it is this thing is moving my sand bed around and I am having to reposition a few corals. It's much more flow than equivalent powerheads. My softies and SPS are going wild. Anyways, those coming over for the tank tour will get to see the action first hand. 8)

Cheers!

hi charles,

sounds good so far. what size is your tank, as i'm thinking of getting either a pair of 3's or 4's. also, read on the koralia thread on rc that perhaps the flow streams out in a 'v' type-shape so there are 3 high-pressured flows towards the sides, but not much in the front, is either that or noise an issue?

also, what ph did you replace it with and how does it compare?

Hey Kenzo,

My tank is a 70g. The 3 creates a lot of flow in that side of the tank, but there are still dead spots on the other side. I may get another (maybe even a 2) for the other side. Right now I have an existing powerhead on that side blowing on my SPS. I would recommend 2 smaller instead of 1 bigger.

As for the flow and noise, neither are a problem. The flow pattern is nice because it is well dispersed instead of focused. I haven't noticed the noise.

As for the old PH. I'm not sure, it is so old and encrusted that I cannot tell. But I have owned MANY powerheads over the years and I have never seen one move water like this.

I have one too and I use it in my 50G tank. Not as much flow as I thought it would be. I put it 1" under water and it couldn't even suck any air from the top.
