Hello All,

I am a relatively new reefer but have had multiple freshwater tanks in the past and helped with my fathers 200gal reef about 15 years ago. I ended up just purchasing a new waterbox infinia 150.4 for myself and am excited to get everything set up and meet some fellow reefers. :)

Thank you! :) Will be posting pics as soon as the tank is delivered and set up. Currently working on the aquascape and have a bunch of gear just standing by. :)

Welcome @abenz1 ! Things have changed in the hobby quite a bit in 15 years, but the chemistry and good animal husbandry aspects haven't changed. You can still have a successful tank with good lighting, live rock, a skimmer, and kalkwasser. I'd say ask any questions here or research anything before making a purchase as there's a lot of snake oil or questionable products that are out there.

Cali Kid Corals is probably your closest local fish store and @Cbruno80 + staff are really nice. High Tide Aquatics and @under_water_ninja are further west and he has fully quarantined fish/inverts. Aquatic Collection and Neptune are further, but also have great selections. Other partner LFSs are listed in our partner/sponsor section.

Here are some of the benefits of joining the club too: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/how-do-i-become-a-supporting-member.14130/

Josh @IOnceWasLegend is a couple months ahead of you in setting up a new tank and his thread is a good one to follow along and see how an experienced reefer tackles this: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/the-lab-josh-and-tiffanys-im-nuvo-ext-200.33340/

Thanks for all the info! Definitely has changed quite a bit in the last 15+ years. I think the wealth of information is by far more easily available now.

I actually purchased the waterbox tank from @Cbruno80. The staff at CaliKid have been nothing but great to work with.

Will definitely start following the thread :)

Thanks again for all the info and excited everyone has been extremely welcoming and supportive!

Welcome to BAR! Double welcome since you’re in my area- I’m in Walnut Creek and I work in Brentwood and Antioch.

Just remember that the information (whether it's good or bad) is more readily available! Just be wary of Facebook/Instagram/YouTube/etc. and verify any wild claims with the combined centuries of reef keeping experience that we have here in the club. Ask away!

@abenz1
Welcome to our place in space!
As mentioned above, we are the best investment that you have made in your reefing journey! Aside from the many perks, it indicates your commitment to both us and your reef aquarium.

Feel free to ask whatever
We’ve most likely experienced and dealt with most situations

Best fishes and happy reefing
