No plastic toothpicks? Use a plastic fork tine!

Plastic fork tines work pretty good. Just snap them off (or cut them). Since they are tapered, you can stab it through a softie and superglue it to a rock. If you think the softie will slide off, then put a glob of sperglue on the other end of the tine that will block the softie from slipping!
