PIF - Hollywood Stunner Chalice

Hello!

I have three very large Hollywood Stunner chalice corals that I’d love to pass along to fellow reefers. These are healthy, fast-growing corals with that neon green glow. They’re great if you have the space for them!

Pick-up only in San Rafael - my preference is someone picks up all 3 and passes the other two along.

Drop a comment or send me a DM if you're interested!

Example of one of them:

Beautiful peice.

Only mentioning this for those thwt may not be aware.

This croal produces very long stinging tenticals, so if you get it or a piece make sure you give thought to placement.

Don't place it near your favorite coral in other words.

I can attest to the fact they look great and grow a a decent pace.

Yes great call out @MichaelB! They do sting corals if they're right next to one so you should always give chalice corals space around it (similar to what you'd do with torch coral or pectinia).

@Ayman if not all claimed I’d love to grab one from you. I have a 12-14” coral that @dandemeyere gave me that’s doing well - maybe he can remind me what it is.

Ok. If you can't host them that long I'm good with another person getting it.
Honestly based on your tank sized you mentioned today. 5.5 gallons and 20 gallons. My non expert opinion would be for you to highly avoid this coral.

They have long sweepers and grow fairly quickly. And you definitely won't have space to be able to move them around to avoid other things in your tank getting stung. They can easily reach out 6 plus inches. If your planning to go to the frag swap you will be garrenteed to leave with enough corals that you will have to try to place them like puzzle pieces to make them fit in your tanks.

It is a lovely coral, and it's fun to see visible growth. Again I think a very bad coral choice for your tank size.

I had a small one in my 32 gallon biocube it wasn't so small in 3 months and I had to get rid of it. Not to put my other corals at risk. If you ever get a larger tank in the future than it wouldn't be as much of a issue.

I would also recommend looking up different coral types, there are many other chalice corals that are far nicer and don't send out the long sweepers at night.

See this video to see what i mean. The sweepers normally come out at lights outs.

My plan was to frag it for DBTC and keep a small frag for myself but totally agree with the long sweepers.

In a 5 gallon tank the sweepers from a single frag could probably touch every wall. I think while they're small they don't do so many sweepers, but they eventually do send out long tentacles. And it'd suck to wake up one day with most of your corals stung half to death

In such a small tank where space is important, I think you should consider how you can pack corals: alternatives, colors and shapes you want, and which corals can interact with each other

I think if you want this colony shape, get a monti cap. There's green ones too. They don't have much sting to them and they can be up close to other corals, you'll just need to trim them back as they grow
