Please help with an old question about dipping corals

I have never dipped my corals ever in the 7 years of reefing and have had no problems with it that I know of till now. My girlfriends bleeding apple scoly is receding and one of my buddies said to dip it in an iodine dip. I don't know what that really consist of, but if someone can chime in on how and what to use that would be great. So what I know right now is that lugol's was a good way to go. thanks for the help.

I use Tropic Main Pro Coral Cure (TMPCC). It is mainly Potassium Iodide IIRC ... and I think Lugol's is similar, if not the same. That said, some other options are Revive, and Providone.

I use revive for dipping corals since Jeremy aka tuberider recommended it. great product. amazing how much crap falls off some corals after the dip.

cool. But now that I have some name brands I am wondering how to do it. The lugols thing on marine depot says to mix purifed water and add the lugols (30 drops) and put the coral in it for 10 to 12 minutes. My question now would be, is this how its supposed to be done and if so 10 minutes seems like a long time. will the amount of time harm the coral since its sitting in freshwater?

I add TMPCC to some tank water until it is a nice dark (not black) tea color. I dip for 15 min., while periodically basting the coral to physical remove any stunned hitchhikers. I then rinse the coral in another cup of tank water and place into the tank. You can even do a second dip if you want, as I've done it twice on many occasions -I have not seen any detrimental effects ... yet. haha. But either way, rinse in a cup of tank water prior to addition to the tank.
