I have a rack in my garage it has 3 shelves (48"l x 24"d x 24"w) that really can't be moved without sacraficing the structural integrity of the shelf. The bottom rack is occupied by my sump and the top rack holds a bunch of junk but doesn't have much clearance to the ceiling. Thus, I have been using the middle shelf for a fuge which has has 2' of height clearance from the bottom to the top.
The fuge is 24"w x 13"d x 16" t. There is a modded florescent light (the kind from Costco or Home Depot you see in the DIY fuge lights post) mounted to the bottom of the shelf above. I have a Mag 7 in my sump that runs through my chiller that currently feeds the sump. I have a ball valve on it to turn the flow down as the drain (a 1" bulkhead) can't keep up with it on full throtle,
On a tip from Jeremy, I went to Pet Club and bought one of their used tru vu tanks (24"w x 19" d x 14" t). The size is perfect for the shelf because it is deeper and shorter the the tank I have now as my fuge. So much so that I am considering getting a second one and replacing my current fuge. What I would want to do is plumb both tanks into my system to use one as a fuge and the second perhaps as a frag tank. The issue I have is that the two tanks together would leave very limited (on no) space between them (as recall the shelf is only 48" wide).
Am I better off bringing in 2 seperate lines and having 2 drain lines (one for each tank) or somehow connecting the two together with say a bulkhead and having 1 drain and one fill lin in total?
Having two tanks at 14" tall gives me a lot more flexibility as to the lighting I can put in as I would have a full 10" of clearance for lighting. I could either keeping the existing fixture I have now for my fuge and getting some sort of t-5 retrofit kit mounted to the underside of the shelf above the 2nd tank or I could go with one fixture that covers both tanks.. Additionally, I can ensure some sort of seperation between the two as opposed to having 1 48" wide tank.
Anyone have any thoughts of how I could make this work? Trying to decide if it would actually work before I go out and get the 2nd tank as I could alternatively turn the new tank sideways effectively making a 19"w x 24"d x 14" tall 2nd tank and leaving my fuge as is and worry about plumbing the two of them together.
Thoughts?
