Red Montipora

Accidentally broke off giant pieces of my montipora. I brought a couple to the swap, but I have a giant piece that was too big to fit in any container.

Located in Redwood City.

If nobody ends up taking it, you can bleach them and use them as frag plates. They’re really good for zoas because you can just cut the stolons/coenenchyme with a razor blade and snap the skeleton

Oh, I never thought of doing this, thanks for the tip! I was just going to throw them in the trash.

also, when you say bleach them...do you mean dipping them in a bleach solution? o_O

Put them in a tupperware or something with half non-scented bleach, half water and leave it there until it’s clean. You might need to replace the solution if it gets real gross.

Then either let it sit and dry for a long time for all the bleach to evaporate, or put it in new water and dechlorinate the crap out of it with prime, then rinse and use

It’s a bit of a shame because it looks so healthy but if it’s destined for the trash might as well

I also heard of people using the red and green monticap in calc reactors when they can't give them away. I think they are cool for me it's too much space they take up in my tanks.
