Red V. Green Alga

Do red and green macro alga both take up "different" things? Or are they both equally good at removing NO3's and PO4's?

take up the same for the most part, although reds take up more iodine. The make up of them is different though, reds tend to be more nutritious.

Excuse my ignorance -the uptake of iodine by red algae is what causes the red coloration, yeah?

I would assume that but I am not sure. I'll ask at work tomorrow. I love the mini lectures I get when I ask out Phycologist this stuff. I learn so much
