Renters Insurance for Aquariums

Does anyone have a renters insurance policy that specifically covers floor damage due to aquarium leaks? I think this would give me some peace of mind, but haven’t found any policies that specifically mention this.

Lemonade + pick the tenant water damage add on and the amount of coverage. I’d call for yourself to confirm what you’ve described is covered. This is what I have and when I first got the insurance, I was told I am covered. But the aquarium itself, tank, livestock, equipment, etc. are not.

I've only seen renters insurance for theft, fire, etc.

Water damage due to aquarium is usually looked at as the renters fault.

How big is your tank and what is it on?

Thanks! I’ll give them a call to see if they can help me setup something similar!

It’s a 75 gallon IM EXT that is on a wood stand I built(2x4s with 3/4” plywood top). Tank has been up for a year, but would just like some peace of mind if anything were to happen given I do not own the property.

Definitely a wise move!
Hopefully you bought a new tank with full warranty (for added piece of mind)

I have suffered your nightmare
More than once
With AND without the renter’s insurance
As one who has experienced these events, it’s better with than without

I think you're playing with fire if you tell your insurance agent you've got a big leaky aquarium in your apartment.
I told them just this. Minus the leaky part. I was told it would be covered. Never had to use it (knock on wood) so can’t speak to what the claims process looks like or if the recant what was told to me.
