rowaphos or phosban?

I have been using rowaphos for years now and lately i'm having a problem with hair algae between my rocks. thinking about using phosban , anybody have experiance using this product. when I test for phosphates but it reads 0 (although test kit is a couple of years old ) and yet the algae continues to grow no matter how much I harvest. ???

I use this

Bulkreefsupply stuff is good. I use the regular granular stuff. Last time Perry (vapormd) checked my water with his hanna meter it read a little low at .01.

The best bang for the buck is the BRS (Bulk Reef Supply) pellet GFO. The HC stuff is great if you don't have a ton of Po4 being put into your water or you don't have that much water. Even though it can hold about 2x more Po4 compared to the pellet GFO, it costs more than 2x the price. The main advantage of HC is you would not have to change it as often. For me, on my 600g tank (~1000g in water) the Pellet saves me a bunch of $$ a year.

What are you guys running the GFO in? Fluidized bed "reactor"? Cannister filter? HOB filter? Mesh bag in the sump? I'm using the last method with my first batch of GFO currently...should I use a power filter?

You have to run GFO in a fluidized reactor otherwise it will turn into a brick in a week or two. I really like the Precision Marine reactors. They have a thick PVC top that is actually a heavy twist lock to screw onto the top of the reactor. All the other ones use a bunch of thumb screws or a flimsy twist lock that I am afraid will break the next time I try to put it together. Check out them at http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_searchItem.aspx?SearchText=reverse+flow&IdCategory=FIFR&vendorname=Precision_Marine&vendorcode=PM&searchlogtext=reverse_flow&parsed=1 I use the 26" $99 one on my 600g FOWLR and love it. If it was not so expensive I would upgrade to the SR55P which is like 5.5" in diameter and 30" tall.

Hey Chicken... is your 600g FOWLR a glass or acrylic tank or a stock tank?

acrylic. I would not want a tank that large made out of glass due to earthquake concerns

No Doubt. I've seen a few 600g FOWLR's made out of 8' wide stock bins.... A lagoon set up. Pretty cool really. I've been considering doing one myself in the next year. You should post some pics of the tank... I bet it's awsome.

Sorry Saltwatersig for the temporarty hijack.... I use Phosban in a Littlefishiess Phosban 150 upflow reactor and have been very happy with it.

whats up sergio...i use BRS HC stuff....from what i experienced with phosban, it pulls PO4 out the quickest, which in some situations, can be bad due to corals being shocked by the sudden change in water parameters...rowaphos lasted the longest for me..it pulled out the most between the two but cost me an arm and a leg considering i was having some major PO4 issues...the BRS gave me a nice "inbetween" cost wise and result wise...all these observations were made using a hanna borrowed from a buddy..

i ran all of them in a viaaqua reactor, but was thinking of picking up the dual BRS one to run carbon inline with it...
