On Wednesday 4-15 he PFMC has announced that there will be a sport salmon season through September 6th and a limited commercial fishery.
The sport season for Pt Arena south will be 20" min size through April 30th. Beginning May 1st through September 6th the season will be open five days per week, Thursday through Monday until September 6th with a 24" min. size.
 
I'm worried that the fish aren't out there, and that if the returns are low, we will pay the price for many years, possibly 4 years of no salmon fishing. Personally, I boycotted the opener, and decided to do my first trip once they decided on the season. Lot's of krill in the water, sometimes from the surface down 200+ feet, we hooked a few fish, landing a single 8 lb salmon. The best area to fish is Bodega as of Thursday, however yesterday they had one fish at 12 pm, and conditions had changed. Not much pressure yet, one fish per boat yesterday....I fished 52 fathoms South of Pt. Reyes. Gorgeous weather to fish in the past few days...nice enough to almost get you to forget how slow the fishing was. :p
