Cali Kid Corals

Seminolecpa Blue Rimmed Palys

Pick these up at the last swap labeled “seminolecpa blue rim palys” . They were just ok until we upgraded to the T5s and then WOW. They really coloured up a bright turquoise! The pics don’t come close.

1) What’s the best way to frag? Cutting off the rock and gluing to a plug? Or gluing a plug next to them and letting them grow onto it?
2) I’ve look through DBTC and don’t see them. Did I miss them? Otherwise would anyone like some when I get them fragged?

I think just leaving them on the rock and either cutting the rock or busting a hammer and chisel to the rock would be the way to go. Leave it on the rubble or glue the rubble to the plug that's up to you. :) I dunno if it's the best way but thats would I'd do personally.

I'd like a frag. :)

Nice color. What sfboarders said works well (busting up the rock) but I've also fragged palythoas without a problem using a razor blade to separate groups of polyps, and cyanoacrylate directly on the base of the polyp to attach them to plugs or rubble. They opened up within an hour or two.

I'm sure you know already but it should be said that they're usually toxic and wear glasses/gloves. I've also read about disturbed/injured Palythoas colonies poisoning a whole tank and causing a crash, so take care.

Hate to break up a big rock like that, but I'll see if I can use a razor first. Yep I know they're toxic, but have never heard they'll wipe out a tank.

Some guy with a smallish (but nice) nice coral-only tank (on RC, iirc) moved a rock and crushed some Palys and the whole tank was dying within hours. "I heard it on the Internet" isn't exactly convincing but I always err on the side of caution. :)

Some guy named Ross or something said "if it's on the internet it must be true". :)

If it's true that's kinda scary....but agree on erring on the side of caution. They are in a nano so not a lot of water volume.

Those protopalys similar to nuclear greens and purples deaths... but those specific ones you have just like coffee brown protos grow like weeds and are invasive growers. Had something like them, had to grow them on the sand or on a separate rock island so that they don't make it to my main rock work.

Interesting. I might have had them at some point and got rid of them in my big paly/zoa purge a few years ago. Been at least a couple of years since I had anything like that in my tank.

Great - just what I want to hear. Get something cool looking and find out it's a weed.

Jess- Thanks for the offer, but I've already started breaking up the rock.......

I'll bring it to the swap....There will be two frags so you and John will get them. It'll be my first 1st generation DBTC!
