Shipped torch not doing well!

Hey guys,

I recently ordered two torches online that were shipped to me next day air. They were shipped yesterday morning and I received them today at 10am. They seemed well packaged but I noticed they only included one heat pack that was wrapped in napkins and it was cold. I temped the shipping water and I got 62F! I dipped them and slowly increased the temp before adding them into my tank so I don’t shock them with a 15F degree difference. One of them looks pissed but overall ok. The other one doesn’t look so well. Its fleshband looks like it’s deteriorating. Seller told me to keep an eye on it and they’ll refund it if it dies. Only thing I’m worried about is I’m going out of town the next two days so if this turns to BJD I’m worried it spreading if it’s just sitting in my tank while I’m gone. If this was you guys, would you just toss it and tell seller it died to get a refund or should I wait and see if it’ll make it?

Incredibly hard to call it at this stage. If the flesh is already falling off then it’s going to be tough. Best bet may be to find someone local who can hold and keep an eye on it for you if possible. You don’t really want bailed torch polyps flying around your tank.

That being said, I’ve saved a torch with peeling flesh in the past, so I would not automatically consider it a goner.

If you suspect the start of BJD, I would take steps. The last thing you want to happen is to have it spread to your other corals.
This works for me: 4-6 hours KFC Dip, then isolate in a Cipro bath for a few days.

I’m just going to setup and move it to a separate small QT tank while I’m gone. I don’t want to risk it dying in my frag tank while I’m out of town
