The Home Depot ball valves are fine for “on/off” but not for regulating flow. Really horrible at that. The spears valves turn like butter and look to be user serviceable.
Ace hardware stock and have the 1” gate valves. But only thing need to do is change the metal screw on top of the gate knob to stainless steel one so doesn't rust.
I don't know if I would say "really horrible". I would say "requires a steady hand to tune". Now these were from Los Altos Hardware, so local hardware store has that special magic to it.
