Tank Upgrade Question

Looking on upsizing my tank one more time but looking to do a new scape , I have a couple sps pieces and many LPS I would like to transition over.

My sump is full of bio blocks , media , and some rock would that be enough to get the new tank stable especially for sps?

Unfortunately I don’t have to space to run another tank in the mean time so it would have to be a day swap and take as much water as I can from my current tank.

Any suggestions would highly be appreciated

I’m NOT a fan of hot swaps. 1 day swap can go horribly wrong. Having said that. I’m not a fan of swaps in general. I believe my aquarium would be leaps and bounds if I just stuck with one system instead of always upgrading. I hear Cody @Cody Ramirez is your friend. I hear he has big aquariums that can house your stuff until the swap is cycled and mature. That would be my play. Do it slow and do it right.

New tank going in the same spot? Make it harder for sure if so. Can you move the current one so the new one is set up, level, and plumbed ahead of time I. The spot it’s going to go? If you do that it’s not hard to move everything g over pretty easy

Yes it’s going into the same spot making it difficult on the good note the pluming should be plug and play as I’m using the same sump just going for my fijicube 32 to a Fiji cube 57. I have many things to consider . Potential holding tank or something of that sort.

Do you keep sand in the system? Your cube is pretty small so I would try to not transfer or disturb the sanded in the move. When do you plan to do this?

You can consider this plan

Buy 2 of those costco black tubs with yellow lids. I think they are close to 30 gallons each.

During your next water change take 10 to 15 gallons out and fill 1 tub. Add heater and small pump to keep water moving.

The day of move take another 10g out of old tank. Have 10g of new water heated for new tank to.

Have 10lbs of new live sand for tank...if you have sand in existing tank.

Take live stock and rock out and place in tubs with old water. Don't disturb old sanded.

Once you finish, move old tank and replace with new tank. Try to test new tank pump before this day to make it's working.

Slowly move 20g of old heated water and the old rock and live stock. New sand too if you decided to have sand. Top off the tank with the 10g of new water to finish.

If you plan to reuse any off the old sand.....wash it well and slowly add back to new sand. Make sure it's clean...no dirt or dusty water.

Goodluck

I have 100gal stock tank you could borrow. In santa clara. I would just need to move the rocks into a trash can or barrel.

Not as big as the 300gallon one.

I also have a 50gallon petco style tank if thats a better size?
