Cali Kid Corals

Termites?

My apartment complex will be performing counter-termite operation ;-)
What should i do to my tank to make sure it survives?

Anyone done it before?

Let's hope they're using orange oil! Tenting could be trouble, I would think. Talk to the exterminator about his process. Try to get something in writing about replacement of stuff that may die. Take your fav corals to someone elses tank?

How long will it take, like 2 days?
You would have to stop bubbling, as they use a gas that doesn't leave a trace, but will kill stuff if breathed in. (Like Carbon monoxide...it'll kill you, but it would hang around as a residue in your house)

If you could bubble in air from outside the tent, that would be ideal.

barring that ... well, my QT tank is full, but I'm sure I can set up yet another tank to house them for you if you give me enough warning to make water.

If they are using Vicane gas, you're SOL and will need to move your tank, the gas finds its way to the water and the water absorbs it.

If they are doing a Boric acid, or an orange based treatment you'll be fine.

Vicane will kill EVERYTHING...except geckos. (that's what the termite guy told me, weird, huh? ) I hope they use something less toxic- for you and your tank's sake.

Hoping for the best!

;D Yup! Isn't that strange though? I wonder what makes geckos immune to the Vicane? We had lots of geckos when we lived in Kailua (beautiful beaches out that side). They would lay eggs in the rafters, behind or in flower pots, just about anywhere. Every spring/summer, we'd have lots of babies crawling across the walls. :D

My insurance doesn't eat up all of the yummy bugs, that's my only complaint :D

LOL ;D

So it is Vicane.

Therminix guys told me I need to move fish but can reuse the water.

I'll move fish and coral to Vince's QT and then use 1 frag to test if the water is ok.

DO NOT TRUST THEM AND REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY SAY MOVE IT ALL OUT. I had customers loose everything due to listening to "experts" like that. Even citrus bases creates fumes that can wreck havoc on your tank. Even painting in another room has led to full tank disasters.

Well I'll move all corals and fish out. I'll end up removing like 1/2 rocks too coz some has anemones attached and some baserock pieces have featherdusters, corals, etc. I will not empty it and remove sand. I'll try to minimize water movement (running return only, no powerheads/skimmer). Then I'll test water by having like gsp/candycane/xenia frags for maybe 3/4 days before adding the rest of the livestock in.

They'll allow you to have the electricity on? usually when they tent a house they turn off both the gas and the electricity to avoid leveling the neighborhood :)

Good luck.

Unfortunately I think your safest bet is to remove the whole tank... :tired: a crap ton of work but I think you'll end up regretting it if you don't.
